Shepherds Hut on Vaalplaas

In the days before tarred roads, pickup trucks and the ubiquitous 16 seater taxis, farmers would send a shepherd with the flocks of sheep of to distant grazing. They were housed in small shepherd huts similar to the one depicted in this oil painting. This hut, on the farm “Vaalplaas” is near the gravel road from Caledon to Tesselaarsdal in the Overberg district of the Western Cape. Its an iconic building and is often photographed by locals and tourists alike. The buildings in the distance are on another farm called “Steenboksrivier”. The painting is 406 x 406 mm or 16 x 16 inches. You can magnify Shepherds Hut or you can go right ahead and purchase it through our Fastpay system
