Chumani is a red breasted Jackal Buzzard photographed near Caledon – South Africa – AP410
The soaring, almost majestic Jackal Buzzard is a common bird of prey in the Western Cape of South Africa. They are often seen sweeping over farmland and mountainside as they play in the thermal updraughts or hunt an unsuspecting field mouse or juvenile Cape Hare. This acrylic on canvas painting is 305 x 406 mm or 12 x 16 inch. He is named after the late son of a South African Cabinet Minister, which is a wonderful story best told in another section of this blog (still to be published). Chumani was photographed in blue gum trees in front of our house. Heart and Soul went into this work, as is the work going into Tobias Toucan.
