A natural sculpture caught in a moment of time
This dead tree stands alongside the road from Stanford to Riviersonderend in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. We often pass it on one of the routes from Caledon to Hermanus. One wonders how old the tree was when it died, how long it has stood, who enjoyed a rest under its branches in days gone by and how long will it continue to brave the elements. The fields around this tree are all arable and are planted every year with Canola, Wheat, Lupins, Barley or Oats. One of my wife’s favourite paintings.
